I found myself hesitating to draw anything today because I’m waiting on a screen protector for my new iPad that makes the screen texture more like paper. Then I realized the ridiculousness in my hesitation and pulled out my tried and true love — crayola markers.
They were the original monoline pen in my life and I spent loads of time writing the same words over and over until my writing became a little more disciplined in a rainbow of colors.
That’s the thing about being left handed and wanting to learn to hand letter, the entire process fights against you. Lefties push instead of pull. The thicks and thins are all in the wrong place. Not to mention my complete inability to have any nuance with pressure. Calligraphy felt completely beyond my reach.
So I turned to crayola markers for my drawing experimentation. The childish nature of the marker and the bright colors helped take some of the pressure off. I just lettered to letter and I learned a lot through the process.
I’ll always be a monoline girlie when I’m drawing on procreate and creating all of my artwork.
But here’s hoping I remember to pick up a crayola marker and paper from time to time.
Love this! As a fellow creative, I just started learning to use procreate! I’ve been taking classes through skill share. It’s been so fun but I’m incredibly overwhelmed by the choices of art style! I’ll be posting some of my stuff but I’d love to learn more!
